welcome to the bankers benevolent fund children we've helped elderly people we've helped disabled people we've helped
Who we are:
The Bankers Benevolent Fund is the independent occupational benevolent fund for the banking community. It is a registered charity for UK bank employees, past and present, and their dependants. This website sets out to explain the work the Fund undertakes and the kind of people we help. It also shows how you can apply to us for assistance, and how you can support us. If you don't have an occupational connection to a bank help may still be available from other occupational benevolent funds. If you follow the link to Benevolence Today you will be able to find out if help is available for you.
What we do:
We relieve poverty and sickness amongst bank employees, their families, children and dependents. We define 'poverty' by using incomes data provided by government which we adjust to individual family circumstances. We define 'sickness' as long term ill health or disability for which state benefits are paid.

In considering applications we take into account length of service, income, savings and individual circumstances. Every application for help is considered on its merits.

In deciding who will get a grant from the Fund we act in a way that's fair, objective, open and equal to all.
Our Mission:
- help children from low income families (who have suffered parental bereavement or disability) to achieve their educational potential and pursue life chances.

- help sick or disabled adults and children to improve the quality of their lives.

- help older people to lead independent, modest but adequate lifestyles, to beat social exclusion, to be free from worry about the major costs associated with mobility, safety and security and basic home essentials.
A typical story from 2007
Mary, aged 82, looks after John aged 87 who retired from banking after 35 years in 1987 and now suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease and stomach ulcers. As they have no savings, she didn’t know how she could pay for a bath lift which became essential while waiting for her knee replacement operation. With no other sources of help available and, with no family to support them, she didn’t know where to turn. The Bankers Benevolent Fund gave a grant of £650 to cover the cost of the bath lift which will help them both to remain independent and continue to live in their own home.
