applying for help
The Fund provides financial and other assistance to past and present employees (and their dependants) of the banking industry in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Please go to the foot of this page if you have worked in insurance.
Are you in need of assistance?
If you are in need of financial support and think you might be eligible for assistance, it’s very easy to apply to the Fund: please see 'How do you apply?' below.

If you know of a banking colleague or pensioner who you think might be in need of financial support, do let them know about how we can help.

Find out if you are eligible for help by clicking on the links in the menu to the left.
How do you apply?
1. If you would like to apply for assistance, or know of someone who might be eligible, you need to decide which pdf form* to download: either the application form for children and dependents or the application form for elderly or disabled. Please contact us if you need one to be sent to you.

2. The application form will ask you to give full details of your income, savings, capital, debts and housing expenditure, as well as information about your circumstances and past banking service. Please make sure that you complete all sections of the form and supply the requested supporting documentation

3. Once your application has been received it will be reviewed by our staff, who may need to contact you for further information or clarification, before it is submitted to the Trustees for consideration.

4. The Trustees meet quarterly to carefully consider each new case on its merits. We take into account both our available budget and our framework of guidelines which are designed to ensure consistency in the help we provide.

5. If there is an immediate need for funds or if the application falls within his delegated powers, the Chief Executive may be able to make a grant available in between Trustee meetings.
* if you are having difficulty viewing pdf files it probably means you need to download adobe reader which you can do by clicking here
Larger grants
If you want a grant for a larger project, we will send you a special application form. You will need to tell us what the grant is for, what benefit it will deliver, and how much you are asking for. From this, the Trustees can decide how best to allocate the available Funds within their areas of priority.

The Trustees favour applications concerned with:

  • child education

  • disabled mobility and return to work

  • elderly remaining in their own homes
  • If you work in insurance
If you work in insurance then you can visit www.theinsurancecharities.com where you may be able to find help as they give vital financial and practical support to past and present employees of the insurance industry, and their dependent relatives, who are suffering financial hardship.
Does your income make you eligible?
Most of the Fund’s beneficiaries have limited means and we have devised a very fair system of calculating who is eligible for our assistance:

  • We compare your level of income to a figure that’s 80% of the UK’s median household income (after tax, housing costs and the age and number of children in your family are taken into account)

  • We also take into consideration any capital assets (excluding your home). These are broadly aligned with the levels at which Income Support is available.

  • We sometimes accept applicants above our limits (which are reviewed annually) where a special need is identified and a strong case for support can be made.
