past history of the fund
The Fund was started back in 1883 by a group of banks. It was an early example of joint corporate social responsibility towards their workforce. Initially it was called the Bank Clerks’ Orphanage and then it changed its name to the Bank Clerks’ Orphans’ Fund.

Following the merger with the Bankers Beneficent Society in 1986, it is known today as the Bankers Benevolent fund. Over the years the Fund has helped nearly 10,000 beneficiaries and their families who have faced financial hardship.
Our mission: the Fund aims to make a meaningful improvement to the quality of life for all its beneficiaries.

We are an independent charity (Registered Number 313080) and a company limited by guarantee (Company Number 19366).

We are funded by individual donations from past and present banking employees and by matching donations from the banks.
