welcome to the bankers benevolent fund
The Bankers Benevolent Fund is the independent occupational benevolent fund for the banking community:

We are a registered charity for all current, former and retired people working in banking in the UK and their dependants.

This website sets out to explain who we help, what we do, and how we do it. It shows how you can apply for assistance, and how you can support us. If you don't have an occupational connection to a bank, help may still be available from other occupational benevolent funds. If you follow the link to Benevolence Today you will be able to find out if help is available for you.
We relieve financial hardship and sickness amongst bank employees, their families, children and dependents

We define 'financial hardship' by using incomes data provided by government which we adjust to individual family circumstances. We define 'sickness' as long term ill health or disability for which state benefits are paid.

Every application for help is considered on its merits and in deciding who will get a grant from the Fund we act in a way that's fair, objective, open and equal to all.

In considering applications we take into account length of service, income, savings and individual circumstances. We also take into consideration as many relevant factors as possible, so it is sometimes necessary for us to seek additional information to help us make sound judgements.

In deciding what help we can provide we sometimes seek inputs from experts such as occupational therapists or specialist advisors and we always have to have regard to the boundaries imposed on charitable help by the regulations under which we operate.
In 2008/9 we provided nearly £1.3 million to help:

  • families or individuals in financial hardship to get back on their feet.

  • sick or disabled adults and children to improve the quality of their lives if they cannot obtain basic necessities.

  • older people to lead independent lives and be free from worry about the major costs associated with mobility, safety and security and basic home essentials if they are in financial hardship.

  • children from low income families (who have suffered parental bereavement or disability) to achieve their educational potential and pursue life chances.

  • banking families living with autism to obtain support from the National Autistic Society.
